Is CrossFit for me?
Many people come to our facility in Geneva having seen or observed some crazy CrossFit workout posted on YouTube. Well I can tell you right now that some of those videos scare the crap out of me too but this doesn’t mean that anyone should avoid or be put off by CrossFit. The needs of the athletes seen in the videos and your own needs differ by degree and not by kind, which means that CrossFit methodology is completely scalable to the individual. These very same methods that elicit optimal response in the Olympic or professional CrossFit athlete will optimize the same response in you.
Squatting is one such method, useful for every althete and non althletes alike as we all need to squat. In fact, squatting is essential to maintaining functional independence and improving fitness. Squatting is just one example of a movement that is universally valuable and essential yet rarely taught to any but the most advanced of athletes.
What is CrossFit?
Each high-intensity workout is a race against time, age, obesity, laziness and sickness. Lose and forfeit health and the ability to move your body as it was intended to be moved. Win and earn functional fitness: strength, endurance, speed and power.
With CrossFit, athletes of all ages and fitness levels are winning these contests every day all over the world, claiming victory by making their bodies healthier, stronger and faster than they were before.
The challenge is before you: a program that produces measurable, observable and repeatable results.
CrossFit works. Will you?
What if I can’t perform certain exercises?
We will instruct you how to perform a progression of the exercise as an alternative. This could be a modified version of the exercise prescribed or a foundational exercise that will develop the required strength and skill progressing you toward the prescribed exercise.
Why CrossFit works
CrossFit perscription is constantly varied, high-intensity, functional movements. CrossFit is successful because it’s challenging—that is the nature of intensity and why so many other programs lack intensity. Everyone and anyone can do CrossFit and we belive that preperation for random physical challenges – i.e the unknowlable is at odds with fixed, predictable, routine regimes. CrossFit works exclusively with compound movements and shorter high intensity cardiovascular sessions. Unlike most other fitness programs, when you do CrossFit, you will have measurable and repeatable data to prove you are getting fitter. Intensity equals POWER and power is generated by moving a load quickly. This means you can score a workout and repeat it at a later time to measure the work produced. Not only will you see and feel improvements physically, your score will demonstrate it.
“Successful people pursue hard things. Unsuccessful people avoid them”.
Who can attend?
Despite what you may have heard CrossFit is designed for all fitness levels, sizes and ages (16+). You don’t have to be fit to start; you join to get fit.
What do I need to bring?
You’ll need water bottle, a towel, running or cross training shoes and comfortable training clothes.
Can I bring a friend?
Of course! We train in a group environment so we encourage you to bring friends along. Just let us know and we will arrange a free introductory session. We’ll even give you a discount on your next membership if they sign up.
What if I miss a session?
We encourage you to attend at least three CrossFit training sessions per week as consistently as possible. If you know in advance you are going to miss your regular training time due to un-changable circumstances, then give us a call at the earliest convenience so others may jump into your place.
If you miss more than one session during your Fundamentals course, then you will have to catch up with private lessons until the coach is comfortable with your ability. Either that or simply join in on the next Fundamentals session.
What about nutrition?
Great nutrition is paramount to achieving wellness, and having ample energy to attack your workouts and life in general. Nutrition is a primary tool for achieving and maintaining your ideal and healthy weight.
There is so much conflicting dietary information available to us these days, and finding the right choices and balance can sometimes feel daunting. You can find some more information and tips on our CrossFit GVA Nutrition page.
We provide all our members with nutrition advice to help everyone reach their goals.
How do you measure results?
Our assessments are based upon a series of Bench Mark Workouts that are repeated over time giving you a baseline to measure against. It is highly motivating to see weekly evidence of your ongoing progress and development.
We encourage members to keep a training logbook to track workouts. You will definitely feel and see the results, and looking back to where you started and seeing how far you’ve progressed is very rewarding. We’re big on recording data and even encourage you to take a before picture and from time to time take some more. The camera and data never lie!!
