Nutrition: what's new in January

January has arrived with its usual batch of good resolutions like getting back into sport and starting a diet! For 2019, we've been working on different programs that we hope will help you achieve your performance and body composition goals. Back in November, we launched our individual nutrition program with a limited number of places. From now on, registration is open to all.

The program is based on 3 months of individual coaching. If you want to lose fat, gain muscle, improve your performance or simply learn more about nutrition and improve your habits and health, we can help. The first step is a 90-minute consultation with Stéphanie, in charge of the program. The first consultation begins with biometric measurements. Our new Inbody machine will give you an extremely accurate and detailed overview of your body composition including body fat percentage, basal metabolic rate (how many calories you need to maintain your current weight), total body water, total lean mass, skeletal muscle mass, body mass index and a segmental analysis that shows the composition of fat/muscle tissue on different parts of the body.

After these measurements, you'll learn the theoretical basics of nutrition before putting them into practice with a plan specific to your goals. Once the consultation is over, you'll have access to a nutrition app that will present the details of your personalized plan. You'll follow up twice a week with the coach to make sure the plan is working, and if necessary modify it. Over the course of three months, you'll have the opportunity to review your measurements twice and analyze any changes.

The 3-month program costs CHF 175 per month. If you would like to register, please send an e-mail to nutrition@crossfitgva.com.

The basic principles of GVA CrossFit nutrition

For those of you who prefer a group approach, we're launching a new course: CrossFit GVA Nutrition Basics. This three-hour course is aimed at people who want to learn the basics of nutrition with a view to modifying their body composition or improving their performance. The course will teach participants how to set up a nutrition plan with different goals: fat loss, muscle mass gain, sports performance optimization.

Topics covered:

  • Energy balance: how much should you eat to reach your goals?
  • Macronutrients: the role of proteins, fats and carbohydrates in the diet
  • Meal tracking: how to keep track of your food intake
  • Meal calendar: how to set your meal frequency and calendar to suit your goals
  • Goal setting: how to set a realistic goal
  • Monitoring results: how to accurately assess body composition

All participants will start with a body composition assessment on our Inbody machine, which will provide a baseline for setting up a plan. The course will include practical elements such as meal planning and will include a visit to the supermarket during the break. By the end of the course, each participant will have an individual nutrition plan tailored to his or her goals. What's more, each participant will be able to ask the coach any questions they may have in order to fine-tune their plan. Six weeks after the end of the course, participants will meet again to take measurements with the Inbody machine and track their progress.
