Coach Corner August

I think you’ve probably noticed a few changes on Rue de Lyon over the past few days. We’ve done a major cleanup to try to optimize the gym and create a more functional space for everyone. I have to admit that cleanliness and rules weren’t high on my list of priorities when I first opened. I was mainly focused on creating the perfect place to train in a warm and inspiring atmosphere. Like everyone else, I wanted a place where I’d enjoy spending a lot of my time.

At first, things were going well, but it took me a long time to realize that it wasn’t enough. What was important to me might not have been important to my coaches or my members. Of course, we’ll never be perfect, but we want to do our best to create a space where everyone feels at home.

This brings me back to Rue de Lyon and the latest changes. This isn’t my job—it’s the job of our newest hire, Elsa Gonzalez. Many of you have known her for a long time as a member of the box. She now works as Community and Business Manager. In addition to handling logistics and optimizing the various spaces, Elsa has also set up a way for you to share your thoughts and send us feedback via feedback@crossfitgva.com. She manages our social media and has added a few (feminine) touches to the locker rooms at GVA and 1227.

Now that we have a better-organized space, we need to keep it that way! We’ll send out regular reminders about some of our basic rules to make sure this new setup works well for everyone. We don’t have many rules—and that’s by design—but that’s why it’s important to follow these few guidelines:

• Please be sure to put your equipment back in its proper place after each use.
• If you can’t attend a class, please cancel your reservation.
• We have designated spots available for open gym. Please do not come during our busiest hours (6:00–7:30 p.m.); it’s not fair to those participating in the class.
• Do not leave your clothes and towels in the locker rooms. They take up space and don’t smell very good either!
